Head model selection

Besides different spherical models, BESA Research offers the choice of standard or individual FEM models. A variety of standard FEM head models are part of the installation. Individual FEM models are available after coregistration of EEG / MEG data and the individual MRI using BESA MRI.

Age-appropriate template head models

• Realistic head models from infancy to adulthood
• Template brains used for models were kindly provided by John E. Richards, University of South Carolina, USA
• Templates were derived by non-linear averaging across real brains in according age-ranges from infancy to adulthood
• 4-layer FEM models were generated based on the templates and are ready to use as forward models in source analysis

Individual 4-layer FEM head models

• After segmentation and mesh generation of the tissues skin, skull, CSF and brain in BESA MRI, it is possible to coregister the individual EEG / MEG data with the MRI and to compute individual 4-layer FEM head models
• The individual EEG / MEG FEM model is available in the head model selection of the source analysis module
